November 24, 2013 – Robert “Robin” Leigh Pemberton, Governor of the Bank of England from 1983 to 1993, passed away today. An obituary published by The Scotsman, mentions that Robin headed the famous old bank during some of its most difficult times. He was appointed Governor by Margaret Thatcher. During his tenure he had to cope with an ongoing sterling crisis, unsettled stock markets, monetary reforms and constant disagreements from Whitehall.
