The most comprehensive and thorough Owens researcher is David H. Owens.  He has not yet decided whether or not we are related, although both families come from King George county in Virginia.

I should tell you that I have become very doubtful that my family is related to your Nathaniel. No evidence of that has shown up, other than that they were both in Fauquier Co. VA at the same time. The only (unverifiable) evidence is an old county history book in KY that says that one of Nathaniel's daughters was born in Ireland. IF that's true, then Nathaniel probably was too, and isn't related to my family. But, I may never know.
