Frequently Asked Questions about pembertonfamly.com

Q: What is the purpose of this site?
A: To provide a gathering place where the Pembertonās can publish their family photos, history, autobiographies, genealogy, resumes or whatever. The founders will be publishing a great number of historical family photos, biographical sketches, etc. about their ancestors. It just makes sense to put all of our "stuff" in one grand, well-indexed album. Our goal is to build family and individual strength by sharing our common values, goals, and heritage.

Q: What can we publish?
A: Virtually anything can be published. The easiest is textual and photographic items, but sounds and even videos are possible. If a family member has a particularly good singing voice, for example, it would be a loss to posterity if at least a portion of a song were not published for everyone in the family to enjoy. Be sure to read the warning on the Ideas page before deciding what you will publish.

Q: Why should we publish anything here?
A: Because it makes whatever you publish accessible to your entire family at a cost that is incredibly low. They can copy and print pictures, for example, at a tiny fraction of the cost of having it done commercially.

Q: Who may publish at this site?
A: Any Pemberton, or relative of a Pemberton, by blood, marriage or adoption. Especially any relative of Henry Coate Pemberton (born 11 July 1849, at Ludlow Falls, Miami County, Ohio,USA), the father of Addison John Pemberton (born 17 July 1871, at Hartland, Marshall County, Iowa,USA), whether by blood, marriage or adoption. These rules apply for progenitors and descendants.

Q: What is the cost of using pembertonfamly.com as an internet site?
A: For sites under 3 megabytes (3,000,000) in size, free. For sites over 3 megaabytes, the cost is $.30 per megabyte per month.

To estimate the size of your site: Each letter of text is 1 byte, a 2" by 3" color picture is roughly 10,000 bytes. Add about 15% for the HTML overhead. (Don't let HTML scare you, with a little luck, you'll never have to deal with it. It's just there to control layout, color, etc.)

Q: How do I get started?
A: Check out the publishing resources page and go from there.

Q: What if I don't have a computer?
A: You don't have to own one, but you will need access to one. There is probably a clever teenager somewhere in the family who would love to create on the web. There are also web page creators in every city in the world who would love to do the work for you for a fee. Just look in the Yellow Pages under Internet or Web.
