The Storms of Life

Strange how these intrude upon our lives,
Like a hurricane they come,
Roaring and tearing at everything we prize,
Frightening, howling, and threatening,
Beating upon the heart of our souls,
Testing our mettle.

Then they pass on and we are left to wonder,
To ponder the wreckage around us,
To thank God for peace and salvation,
For the pleasures of life,
The hope of eternity,
The prayer of dedication.

Oh Come, My Love

Oh come my love and with me ride
Across the hills of Sunnyside,
While I, my courage, try to find
To speak the question on my mind.

Tis late upon thy birthday night
My thoughts and feelings take to flight,
No place with glory rife I see
To match the beauty of my wife to be.

You sit patiently by my side
And wait for me to end the ride.
A gravel pit at last I see,
Where frogs question the night like me.

The sky is clear the stars are bright,
To help me phrase this question right.
Into my arms your body slips
The question passes from my lips.

Oh come my love and live with me!
Through life and love and ‘ere might be.
Oh come my love, say yes to me!
Will you be my eternity?

Through eyes as bright as yonder stars
Your Venus heart speaks love to Mars.
The answer swift and oh so right,
Is yes! Is yes! Oh glorious night!

The ring to your finger is justly bright,
And glistens in the soft star light.
The frog songs cease in deference
To this beautiful new princess.

My breath is gone and too my heart
And I fret if I can even start
To measure up what you deserve.
Where shall I find the will and nerve?

Oh God, my King, my Father kind,
Speak peace to this my troubled mind.
Thy daughter has said yes to me.
What shall I do? What shall I be?

This woman who so filled my heart,
So every day did end and start
With thoughts of her and joy so sweet,
I scarce could wait for us to meet.

She spoke yes to my urgent plea
She’s standing now right next to me
Yes, thank you Lord, I have her eyes
What shall I do with this new prize?

The answer comes now soft and clear
“Keep her close and hold her dear,
Comfort, protect and ever love
Bring her to my home above.”

And so it was, it was all right
That warm, starry birthday night
When you said yes and I said too,
That I’d be ever true to you.

So come my love and with me find
A Temple tall with glory kind.
We’ll seal our hearts in unity
For time and all eternity.

Your hand in fitfull eagerness
I take in mine with soft caress.
We place them on the alter there,
And offer each the love we bear.

The vows we take in soberness,
Belie the joys that fill our breasts,
While angels all around with glee,
Sing songs of love’s eternity.

Now come my love, sweet joy, sweet wife,
We go to launch our ship of life,
And see our dream of starry bands
Take shape within our eager hands.
The God of Heav’n says we are ours,
And smiled on us with heaven’s powers

Oh come my love, sweet Charlet dear,
Walk by my side and never fear
For God has bound us, you and me
In love for life, eternity.

And in that sacred bindery
We’ll press on now with energy
And claim the prize that God has sworn
Awaits us resurrection morn.

With spirits young and bodies fresh
We’ll join again in bright caress
A tender Venus wrapped in Mars
We’ll dance the romance of the stars.

Happy Anniversary my beloved!
